In Medieval times music was a very significant to different people, whether it was for celebrations, holidays, or something as humble as eating a meal.
Often played during holidays and special parties, it was a great way of entertainment. The musicians would play cheerful and jolly music with crescendos. Many a different medieval music instrument was played, including, recorders, horns, trumpets, whistles, bells, and drums. During weddings and birthdays, the music was especially uplifting, for weddings and on Valentine's Day, lovers' music was played that was sure to conjure a romantic atmosphere…

Hulky Hurdy-Gurdy~
The Hurdy-Gurdy or “Wheel fiddle” is an ancient medieval stringed instrument. You play it by a hand-cranked wheel covered with pine resin which rubs over the strings. It has a “Chanter” strings which always hums a single note when playing, it has a keyboard which the softening occurrence of strings that can be altered to change pitch. Because of the moods of the English language the name “Hurdy-Gurdy” was also used for low-priced barrel organs, which played a fixed tune, (like a music box) which grew in the hands of buskers and street performers.
