The Deadly Black Death~
The plague or “Black Death” swept through England and highlands in the medieval period of 1348-49. It only lasted a year (in England*) but it thousands upon thousands dead, the population dropped so rapidly it took almost seven years to get to the original numbers. It glided terrifyingly across England in a bubonic form throughout the summer of 1348. It transformed into an even more blood-curdling pneumonic form throughout the winter, the cause of the plague was the lack of total hygiene.
It infested London in the September 1348, by the beginning of spring 1349 it was gnawing its way through Wales and the midlands. It soared across the Irish Sea in the late summer, just as they thought they were safe from the cannibal of disease; however it pierced Scotland in 1350 so no part of the British and Irish isles were safe. One detailed quote can be found at St Mary's, Ashwell, Hertfordshire, where an unidentified hand has carved a traumatic inscription for the year 1349:
“Wretched, terrible, destructive year, the remnants of the people alone remain.”
Pneumonic- Pneumonic plague is the most serious form of the disease and is the only form of plague that can be spread from person to person.
Bubonic- fever, headache, chills, and weakness and one or more swollen, tender and painful lymph nodes (called buboes).

Stories?
there are many novels, books and stories written about or around the time of the black death. They are from all different points of view.
I have read a few books that are set during the medieval periods and black death so are true stories;
Mary Hopper is renowned for books that relate to medieval times e.g.
"At the sign of the Sugared Plum" which is set around the plague, there is sequel "Petals in Ashes".
"The fever and the flame" also set around the plague and the great fire of London which is set a little later. But her best Medieval set story was "Fallen Grace" a tale about death and disease. Each from a different rank and persons point of view of the life of Medieval England.
However there is another story written by Mary Hopper which is a total true story of Anne Green, hanged for infanticide at Oxford Assizes in 1650 that she didn't commit, restored to the world and died again 1665. Its called "News from the Dead" written again in the grueling times. Fantastic books that are just a few of the many different stories of the world we can't experience, i really do urge to read.
